This coffee comes from Hopong, a township in Myanmar’s Shan State, where farmers, historically caught in the cycle of illegal poppy cultivation, have shifted towards coffee farming. Through support from international programs, these farmers embraced specialty coffee to escape the high-risk, low-reward poppy trade. The coffee from Long Hay and neighboring villages showcases vibrant fruity notes of apple, berries, and stone fruits, with a natural sweetness. The cooperative model, spearheaded by Indigo Mountain, empowers farmers with better prices and sustainable growth, fostering economic resilience in a region once dominated by poppy cultivation. This coffee reflects both the journey of a community and the unique terroir of Myanmar’s Shan highlands.
